Adding Clouds to Blender Cycles' Sky Texture

Still not what I wanted but very usfull I am sure.

(Good or Bad) I have labeled some nodes, Cloud Dencety Volumes, Wind Directions, Cloud Horizon and Lighten and darken all.

in the Blend I have the wind direction at -1 on x this is drifting the clouds to the right,

a +1 on the x would make them drift to the left.

y values will make the clouds closer and farther

z values will make the clouds higher and lower

Hope it usfull, Please leave feedback. Have fun Blending.

Is Blender Cloud Worth the Monthly Subscription Fee?

As a free, open-source software for 3D modeling and animation, Blender has democratized the industry to a generation of aspiring designers, architects, and animators. The system is quite intuitive on its own, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a need for additional training tools and support guides to grow your skills. While there are plenty of free and paid training options available from third-parties, there is also Blender Cloud.

For around $10 a month, the service provides access to a massive amount of training content curated and created by Blender’s official institute. Keep reading to find out more about what’s included in that monthly fee to help you decide whether or not it’s worth signing up for.

Contents

What Is Blender Cloud?

Blender Cloud was originally designed as an educational platform to help further promote the Blender software in an already competitive industry and raise funds for the not-for-profit Blender Foundation. Today, it has expanded its offerings into a comprehensive list of content and services aimed at helping all levels of users master the system to its fullest potential.

As a subscription-based service, Blender Cloud guarantees its members access to all Blender Institute training and production sessions, all Open Movies files, and many more essential features, like:

  • Weekly/daily training session streams
  • Film assets and full .blend files
  • Full animation and shot breakdowns
  • Shot walkthroughs
  • Access to shot lists
  • Shaders/node trees and textures
  • Access to render management software

This platform is also a continuation of the foundation’s belief in community by creating a space where all users, from hobbyists to industry professionals, can make and share projects. Here’s a brief but expansive look at what this platform has to offer.

Training Courses, Workshops and Production Lessons

Training Courses, Workshops and Production Lessons

Similar to online course hubs like Udemy or Skillshare, but exclusively for Blender, professional artists from the Blender Foundation community like Julien Kaspar and Gleb Alexandrov take their time to explain the inner workings of Blender, investigating every topic possible from 3D modeling and basic animation, to expert sculpting, shader creation, and full-blown film production breakdowns.

Lessons are composed of animation fundamentals, character workflows, procedural shader tutorials, and many more facets of film and animation production in Blender. Each lesson comes complete with a fully interactive chapter-style overview that’s segmented for easy access as well as .blend source files for those lessons.

Many of the topics walk you through a completed creation or rendered animation in which the artist demonstrates and breaks down the essential steps. Other topics cover broader fundamentals that make up the foundation of 3D modeling and animation.

One great example of this can be found with Blender Cloud’s Animation Fundamentals lesson. A great way for intermediate users, but beginners in animation, to get a better grasp on how to bring characters and environments to life using Blender.

Texture and HDRI Libraries

Texture and HDRI Libraries

All artists need a toolbox, an inventory of tools and materials that can simplify and streamline your work. But as your skills and projects begin to grow, often even a basic toolbox is no longer enough. Making your own is of course possible, but not practical if you’re working solo. You need a strong set of tools that are reliable and readily available. Blender Cloud has you covered.

As part of the monthly subscription, Blender Cloud offers a vast library of professional Blender-ready assets available to download anytime; a bevy of content to help you get your productions off the ground. Even without being a member, you can actually view all of the assets to see what’s inside the Cloud: 16K and 24k public domain textures, HDR images, and production ready characters for animation and rendering.

Useful Services Like Syncing, Sharing and More

Blender Cloud is not only a great resource for finding assets and honing your skills with professional tutorials; it has also grown into a reliable and powerful solution for a variety of designer needs. The Blender Foundation’s goal is to improve the Cloud’s workflow with Blender by providing services to better accommodate its user base.

The main service comes in the form of the Blender Cloud add-on, which provides access to most of the Cloud’s features directly inside Blender’s UI.

One of the newer services available is Blender Sync, a part of the Blender Cloud extension that allows users to sync their Blender startup files and user preferences across multiple workstations. With Sync, you can now save and upload your preferences and settings across devices and Blender release versions.

Image sharing is another special feature for Blender Cloud members. When working with Blender, many users often want to share their viewport content, renders, and textures, or simply take a screenshot of their current work schedule.

The Blender Cloud add-on makes this possible with a single click of a button. The photos and screenshots you upload to the cloud are saved to your home (personal) project. You are free to remove them at any time.

Along with these features, Blender Cloud can help you manage your project’s pipeline, materials, and progress using the Private Projects and Attract features. Private Projects allows you to upload all your .blend file’s elements, materials, and assets directly to the Cloud, while Attract offers task management, multiple user assignments, and due dates, as well as activity logs. Tasks can be also managed with asset and shot lists.

Activating Sync

All you need to do to activate the Sync service is sign in using your Blender ID. Then, download the Blender Cloud add-on, install it, and turn it on. If you install an older version, the add-ons will be upgraded automatically. You will need to restart Blender for the change to take effect.

Using Image Sharing

Thanks to the Cloud add-on, you should see a new button appear in the Image Editor header. When you click it, the current image of your render will be uploaded to Blender Cloud and you will also find a shortcut linked on your clipboard. You can paste the link in online chats, forums, or emails and share it with anyone you want.

Using Screenshot Sharing

You can use the Window dropdown menu (or the info window above if you prefer) to take a full screenshot of the window, as well as the local screenshot space menu only (search share).

Streamline Your Skills and Sharing with Blender Cloud

Blender was built on the principle of community, which can clearly be seen in everything that Blender Cloud has to offer. While Blender itself is free, you do need to pay a monthly fee to access the majority of the content provided in Blender Cloud. Fortunately, the price is low enough to make it a worthwhile investment for any serious Blender user. If you’re still on the fence about trying it out, we suggest checking back occasionally as the Blender Institute continues to add new content, services, and capabilities that may prove useful to you down the road. Happy rendering!

Fast Clouds in EEVEE Blender 2.8 - Quick and Dirty

I’ve been a member of the Blender Cloud since 2016, and one of the benefits you get is that your local copy of Blender can interact with… well the Blender Cloud. You can access texture files, HDRIs, save your files, upload your renders and work in progress – all without leaving Blender. That’s cool!

What I can never remember though is how to actually start this thing. I thought I’d write it down here, in the hope that I’ll remember to search this site and find this post. Here’s what we do:

Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + A

That’s it! Almost. Before doing that, we must save our .blend file, otherwise anything we pull from the cloud cannot be saved inside our file (a .blend file isn’t just a file, it’s a whole folder hierarchy by the way, which is why we don’t need to specify complicated paths again – very clever).

I assume you’ve got the add-on installed too, which goes without saying. The Blender Cloud folks have a video about that though, check it out:

Installing the addon

  • If you don't have one already, sign up for an account at the Blender ID site and subscribe to the Blender Cloud.
  • Install and log in with the Blender ID.
  • Install the Blender Cloud addon in Blender (User Preferences → Addons → Install from file...) by pointing it to .
  • Enable the addon in User Preferences → Addons → System.

Blender Sync

The Blender Sync feature synchronises your settings with Blender Cloud. It contains a copy of your settings for each Blender version you're using, just as you are used to on your harddisk. After installing the Blender Cloud addon, open its settings in User Preferences → Addons → System. There are two buttons:

Blender Sync, first impression

"Save {current Blender version} settings" saves your current userprefs.blend and startup.blend to Blender Cloud. This also saves your settings locally, so you do not have to press the "Save User Settings" button.

"Find version to load" connects to Blender Cloud to see for which versions of Blender there are settings. Once pressed, it shows the most recent version available:

Blender Sync, after finding version

If you want to load from a different version of Blender, for example if you have just saved your 2.77 settings on one machine, and want to load it into Blender 2.78 on another machine, just press the "..." button.

This two-step process (first "Find versions..." and then "Load settings") is done on purpose. We believe that it is important to have you, the user, in control over what Blender does. As a result, the Blender Cloud Addon will never perform network communication without your approval.

Some settings are machine/OS dependent, and will not be synced

  • All file paths. For example, you can set your script directory to your Dropbox directory, and be confident that it remains so, even when you sync between Linux and MacOS.
  • The monitor DPI and Virtual Pixel Mode settings, since not every machine has the same monitor.
  • The CUDA compute device.

Texture Browser

Browsing textures

Browsing folders

After installing the Blender Cloud addon, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A to activate it. Downloaded textures are loaded into image datablocks. The download location can be configured in the addon preferences, and defaults to , i.e. relative to your current blend file.

Image & Screenshot Share

From the image editor you can share images to your Blender Cloud home project. You will also find a button for this on your render results. The shared images are simply assets in your home project, albeit displayed a little differently by default. If you take away the “?t” from the URL you exit "theatre mode"; there you can click on the “Edit asset” button to change the name, description, etc.

Images are uploaded as-is; if you want to share a scaled-down version of an image, scale it down first. Render sharing uses the render settings.

After sharing an image, Blender will place a link on your copy/paste clipboard. You can paste that link in a chat or email and share it with anyone you want.

We cannot promise that your shared images will stay on Blender Cloud forever. It’s a way to easily share between people, but not a permanent storage to show off your work. We will introduce limits on the maximum lifespan of a shared image. No worries, we’re not Snapchat, so they won’t disappear after a few seconds.

Building an installable ZIP file

Regular users shouldn't have to do this.

To build a ZIP file that can be installed by Blender, run . This creates a ZIP file in the directory. This command requires Git to be installed and available from the CLI as .

The addon requires:

These dependencies should either be installed somewhere where Blender can find them (i.e. importable with 'import pillarsdk' for example), or be bundled as wheel files in . The command gathers the dependencies and bundles them as wheel files.

Blender Cloud Texture Library Add-on

Clouds¶

Clouds represent Perlin noise. In addition, each noise-based Blender texture (with the exception of Voronoi and simple noise) has a Noise Basis setting that allows the user to select which algorithm is used to generate the texture. This is often used for Clouds, Fire, Smoke. Well-suited to be used as a Bump map, giving an overall irregularity to the material.

Options¶

Grayscale

The standard noise, gives an intensity.

Color

The noise gives an RGB value.

Noise

Soft or Hard, changes contrast and sharpness.

Size

The dimension of the Noise table.

Depth

The depth of the Clouds calculation. A higher number results in a long calculation time, but also in finer details.

Similar news:

So earlier today, I made a cloud texture map generator in Blender, and I am releasing it to the public for anyone to use:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/xmzo96pxoe492ri/Cloud_Texture_Maker.blend/file
(This only works in v2.83.3 or higher)

So when you open the file, you should get something that looks like this:

What we have to do now is change the render setting to "Viewport Shading" by clicking this icon at the top-right of the window with the sphere:

Pic2.png

You should now see this:

Pic3.png

If we go down to the node tab and move over, we see this noise setting which will determine the look of the clouds:

Pic4.png

-W: This is just the seed for the texture
-Distortion: I recommend setting it between 0.3 and 0.85
-Scale: Set this between 4.5 and 10 for something that looks Earth-like
LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE UNTOUCHED

When you get something you are satisfied with, select this node and click on the "New Image" icon circled in red:

Pic5.png

You should get this menu. Make sure you have the width and height in a 2:1 ratio (example: 4096x2048). You can name the image anything you like. Once done, click "OK":

Pic6.png

Make sure that you have the sphere and the image node selected, and then click on "Bake":

Pic7.png

This will take some time depending on your PC or the size of the image texture that you set.

Once the texture is finished being baked, you should see the output on the bottom-left, but we aren't actually gonna touch this here:

Pic8.png

We are instead going to click the "Texture Paint" tab:

Pic9.png

You should see this menu:

Pic10.png

You will then click on "Image," and then "Save As...":

Find a good place to save the file, and voilà! an alpha cloud map texture ready for any use:

Been into Astronomy since the age of 5 or 6. Started making planetary textures back in late 2016. 3D animator who makes high quality animations in Cinema 4D. I find it funny that Nintendo officially called Boom Boom, a "mad lad" lol. Currently on the quest to find a piece of space music I only heard in one YT video (which unfortunately was deleted or made private).
