2021 Chevrolet Silverado Touch Up Paint

The vehicle color code will list the paint color exactly so finding it is important. In order to guarantee the accuracy of a color, paint should be ordered based on the color code. Learn where to locate your Color Identification Plate .

There can be more than one color code shown below. For example, the color code '96/WA8867' listed on our site can be shown on your vehicle as '96U' or '96L' or '8867' or 'WA8867'. Often there will be a 'BC CC' before the color code. This stands for Basecoat/Clearcoat. The 'U' in the paint code means the Upper Color and the 'L' means the Lower Color. Two tone vehicles will have each color coded, i.e. '96U' and say '36L'. Also, it could be '8867L' or '8867U'.

Later Chevrolet colors can be really confusing. The color Son Of A Gun Grayhas 8 different color codes. (WA139X/WA481B/WA482B/G7Q/GK1/GK2/GPF/WA527B) If you find any of these codes on your vehicle, this is your color!

Please do not order based on the color you see onscreen. Because computer and phone screens are all different, the color you see on online may not look exactly the same as the paint you receive. For more information, view the FAQ'S .

Always verify your Chevrolet color code on your vehicle before ordering. Chevrolet Silverado colors may go by several different names and color samples shown for 2021 Chevrolet Silverado are approximate.

Find Your Chevrolet Color and Chevrolet Paint Code

Chevy paint codes are located on the Service Parts Identification sticker. The sticker and section that lists your Chevrolet color code looks like this:

Chevrolet paint code location

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the location of the Service Parts Identification sticker that lists your Chevy paint code. Through the years, they have tried so many different locations, it often makes it impossible to ever find it. Plus, their paint code format is confusing. GM (parent company of Chevrolet) makes so many makes and models, you would think they would have standardized the location of the color plate. No such luck.

Usually when someone has trouble finding a Chevrolet paint code, I have them look in the glove box or the spare tire well. If this doesn't work, then you start looking everywhere for it.

The typical color code format is:

51/WA316N

and this is usually preceded by BC/CC. So the above color would be BC/CC 51 or  BC/CC 316N. You will notice our listings all have a WA in them because this is how they are listed in our color information. Also, there are really two codes in each color code to make it even more confusing. There can be eighteen different code 51's so then you have to use the 316N to identify the color. Also, these codes can be preceded by a U or L which correspond to Upper and Lower color. See below under two tone for more information.

Again, I ask...who was in charge of this??

which corresponds to Slate Gray Metallic Clearcoat.

Two Tone Combination
Chevrolet has many two tone combinations for some cars. Two tones are two different colors on your car.  If your car has two colors, you will see the two tone color code. Using the above example, the code could be listed as:

BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N  The U stands for Upper Color and the L stands for the Lower Color. Again, just a confusing way to present color information.

Same Color Code, Different Name
Chevrolet, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. It's the same paint! This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint.

For example, 316N  above we call Gold Mist Metallic Clearcoat It could also be called Gold Clearcoat, Inca  Metallic Clearcoat, etc. depending on what the marketing department decided to call it.

How To Repair Damaged Chevrolet Paint With Chevrolet Touch Up Paint

By following these Chevrolet paint repair directions, you can make your Chevrolet paint shine again! For more detailed instructions, including how to use Chevrolet spray paint, see our Directions for How To Apply Touch Up Paint.

1. Prepare Your Chevrolet for Touch Up Paint

Make sure the temperature is over 50 degrees F, then wash the damaged paint on your Chevrolet with soap and water. Use a wax and grease remover on the area. Placing masking tape around your scratched Chevrolet paint will help protect the surrounding auto paint.

2. Repair Rusted Areas Before Applying Chevrolet Touch Up Paint

Remove all traces of rust from your Chevrolet with 220 grit sandpaper or a wire brush. Then use rust converter and apply it to the rusted area of your Chevrolet.

3. Apply Primer Before Painting Your Chevrolet

If you have an unpainted surface on your Chevrolet, like bare metal or plastic, apply primer before Chevrolet touch up paint! Apply several thin coats of primer to the Chevrolet paint you are going to repair. Only apply a small amount of primer to your Chevrolet at time. Let the primer dry, overnight if possible, before applying the Chevrolet touch up paint. Once dry, lightly sand the primed Chevrolet paint area with #220 grit sandpaper followed by #600 wet and dry sandpaper.

4. How to Apply Chevrolet Touch Up Paint

You are now ready to apply Chevrolet touch up paint to your car. Apply several thin coats of Chevrolet touch up paint to build up the damaged paint area to the same depth as the surrounding surface. Let the Chevrolet paint dry for ten to twenty minutes between coats.  After the final coat, let the paint dry thoroughly before applying a clearcoat layer. Usually if you let the Chevrolet paint dry overnight, it will be dry. If temperatures are below 70 degrees F, allow additional time for the Chevrolet touch up paint to dry.

5. Protect Repaired Chevrolet Paint with Clearcoat

Make sure the Chevrolet touch up paint you applied earlier is dry. Apply several thin coats of clearcoat over the touched up Chevrolet paint, drying for ten to twenty minutes between each coat. Let the clearcoat dry overnight, or longer if temperatures are less than 70 degrees F.

6. Use Rubbing Compound to Make Your Chevrolet Paint Shine

Rubbing compound will help your Chevrolet touch up paint repair become smooth and shiny like the original paint. Let the clearcoat dry for at least three days, then use rubbing compound on your Chevrolet. Apply rubbing compound to your Chevrolet paint with a clean, soft cloth like an old tee shirt, but not wood products like paper towels. Place a small quantity of rubbing compound on the area where you applied Chevrolet touch up paint. Use circular strokes while applying even pressure to the surface. Buff with a clean cloth to a high gloss. For best Chevrolet touch up paint results, let your Chevrolet's finish dry for thirty days and then apply a good quality automotive wax.

Chevrolet Touch Up Paint Pens, Spray Paint, and Other Chevrolet Paint Products

Once you are ready to repair your Chevrolet with touch up paint, you need to decide which Chevrolet paint repair products to order. Chevrolet touch up paint pens are great for small and quick Chevrolet paint jobs, while Chevrolet spray paint is better for repairing larger areas. 2 oz. Chevrolet basecoat paint bottles work well if you have many Chevrolet paint chips to fix.

GMC Touch Up Paint

Find touch up paint specific to your GMC

Although this car brand has been around for more than a hundred years, everything was not always smooth sailing for this automotive giant. Let's start at the beginning - the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was founded in 1901 by Max Grabowsky as one of the earliest commercial truck constructors. At the time, business savvy William C. Durant founded General Motors as a holding company for Buick. Flaring an interesting business opportunity, Mr. Durant bought Rapid Motor in 1909 marking the base of the GM truck foundation. The same year, the corporation bought another independent company; the Reliance Motor Car Company and quickly merged the two entities together in 1911. The first appearance of the GMC trucks was the following year at the New York International Auto Show. Since that time GMC was considered an independent entity encompassed inside GM. The truck company started gathering quite the amount of interest when they started a couple of cross-country expeditions across the United States. The initial 1916 expedition allowed one GMC truck to ride from Seattle to New York City in only thirty days. The subsequent excursion took the 1926 truck five days and thirty minutes to cover all the ground between New York to San Francisco. During the Second World War, GMC provided the U.S. Military with an impressive 600,000 trucks, some of them being amphibious 6x6 trucks. After this success, the company diversified its offering by developing a range of ambulances and fire trucks then the buyout of a Chicago bus company provided GMC the technical knowledge to construct urban and transit buses. At that point, the manufacturing of buses completely stopped in 1987 as a result of the increasing competition of this line of trucks. The brand is now concentrating on SUVs, pickups, light and medium duty trucks and vans. How to find your GMC Paint Code?

How to find your GMC Paint Code?

GMC paint codes have moved around a little over the years. You have to keep an eye out for the "Service Parts Identification" sticker, sometimes a white paper tag or on more recent models, a silver sticker. Start by looking in the glove box as it is the most obvious location. Otherwise it will most likely be on the driver side door jamb. It can also be found under the left side of the driver seat or on the rear side pillar of the passenger door. As a last resort, take a look at the passenger sun visor, the side wall of the cab or behind the passenger seat. The GMC paint code is composed of a string of letters and numbers that you can see after the "BC/CC" indication. In case you have a two-toned model, the paint code for the upper body will be after the "U" and the lower body color or bumper color will be after the "L". GMC Paint Code Examples: 75/WA8980, GWY/WA106V, WA9967
