List of PlayStation games incompatible with PlayStation 2

Wikipedia list article

The PlayStation 2 was designed to be backward compatible with PlayStation games. However, not all PlayStation games work on the PlayStation 2. In addition, later models of the PlayStation 2 console could not play all of the games that were released for prior versions of the PlayStation 2. This article provides a list of some of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games that are not compatible with all models of the PlayStation 2.

All models[edit]

Okay so here's a major link that I was looking for:
https://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/wh ro/

Thank goodness for old bookmarks; I never would have found that topic again otherwise.
It was for a slightly different motivation (or maybe not so different), but has the same goal in mind--> listing multi-disc games that allow saving at disc change.
It may not be an absolute authority, but it seems consistent with everything I've heard.

So far, my list of No save before change is as follows:
Arc the Lad III
Chrono Cross
**maybe** Grandia (2 to 1 says it saves)
Lunar
Lunar 2
Metal Gear Solid
Parasite Eve
Thousand Arms
Valkyrie Profile
Xenogears

noiseredux wrote:I will have to check the old Together Retro thread but I remember getting stuck emulating on an Nvidia Shield because I had no way to load my save on disc 2 of Grandia. I'll update my findings when I have time.

Please do :)
I did peruse the last few pages of that TR thread and you only mention that you were still on the 1st disc.

Maybe I should play that sometime

And here's a thread that lists most or all other PS1 multi disc games (but missing Riven, so who knows):
http://www.1emulation.com/forums/topic/ n-coinops/
I did play though Koudelka once. No idea if it was save at change or not (I think it might have been). And that's the trouble we run into with this: even those that have experience with a game probably don't remember. And most are RPG's, so who has the time to check?

just another lost soul

  1. Watch walking dead 5

  4. Newmarket police department nh
  5. Gw2 necromancer
I bought Xenosaga II and III recently, but Xenosaga III came in a replacement DVD case, with the game's second disc coming in a paper sleeve in the manual's slot (I bought the game for about $55 at a retro game store if anyone's wondering)

While I'm aware there's plenty of regular PS2 cases being sold on eBay, I can't seem to find any that have an addon to hold a second disc (or at least one with hinges that allow one to be attached). Does anyone know where I could get one (or if it's even possible)?
Yes, you buy a different multidisc PS2 game and then swap the contents over.

Habitual Judge

Best thing to do is look for a game that was mass-produced and came with a dual-disc case like some later versions of Twisted Metal black had, I believe.

Owner of NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, SMS, GEN, TG16, PSX, PS2, PS3, XBOX, X, XB1, GB, GBC, GBA SP, GB Micro, DS, DS Lite, PSP and a lot of crappy games.

This is a good suggestion, but thankfully I got lucky and found an empty 2 disc case on eBay. It's good to know that it's rare, but possible to find.

Good to hear. How much was it?

There are not many games I know that have 2 discs. King of Fighters: Maximum Impact is one. I think I may have one other. I know Cy Girls was a two-disc game as well, but I got that loose.

It was about $6. During my search, I was only able to come across one other listing that had one, a $17 bundle that also came with 4 single disc cases.

I'm probably gonna end up trying to find another one anyway, since the Xenosaga II case is cracked in a way where it's hard to open it. I may end up having to ask sellers of large empty case bundles if they happen to have any (I'd rather avoid butchering good condition games if I can).

How about these? There generic or empty DVD cases though. Scroll down to see some double cases.

Devil May Cry 2 had 2 discs. Shouldn't be too bad. It wasn't that popular and the HD collection made it obsolete.

Unless you really want to store a memory card with it, you could just get double disk standard dvd cases.

such as https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Double-Replacement-Plastic-DV2R14WTBK/dp/BKMWOFG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=&sr=&keywords=2+dvd+case

megavolt85 wrote:do you seriously prefer hot swapping?
modchip is so cheap that all these hot swap methods are a thing of the past

I do not prefer hot swapping at all. I have a Playstation manufactured in October , so I've been doing this:

METHOD ONE: The Audio Menu [Safe and very easy]

Works on : Very early Japanese, European and American machines.
Success : 80%
Problems : Music is often corrupted. The TOC (Table of Contents)
from the boot CD is always used which is less than ideal.

o Power up your PlayStation WITHOUT a game or demo CD in it.

o Select the CD Audio menu.

o Get a local CD that matches the country of the machine you
have. (ie a Japanese game for a Japanese PlayStation etc.)

o Find some tape, Blu-Tak or something similar. Several people I know
have found the corner from a cornflake packet works well <shrug>.

o Open the lid and look at the top right of the bottom section,
near where the hinge is. See the small circle in the groove?
Good. This is the lid sensor.

o Insert your local CD.

o Put the tape, Blu-Tak or whatever over the sensor and *gently*
push it down. The CD will now spin for a few seconds.

o When the CD has finished spinning take it out and replace it
with the foreign game you wish to play.

o Now shut the lid and exit the CD Audio menu. The game should
now work fine (see above for exceptions.)

o When you have finished playing, open the lid and remove the
tape, Blu-Tak etc from the sensor. This will stop the CD.

The only time I need to hot swap is when a game forces you to swap to disc 2 mid game with no save before and boot disc 2 option, or if the audio menu trick doesn't work (not an issue yet). I also have no soldering skills at all, long term might learn how to solder.

Games ps2 multi disc

So just been getting into retropie again and wanted to give my two cents here in case anyone stumbles across this issue:

https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/issues/#issuecomment

"So I've been trying a few things now in order to eliminate these extra folders.

Firstly, I keep the all my roms in one directory since they're going to be sorted via the scraper. To eliminate the M3U and the an additional cue file for each disc showing up I found the following workaround:

Remove the .cue extension on the multi-disc files so that es_systems.cfg won't list them.
Remove the .cue extension you reference them in the M3U.
My M3U for chrono cross looks like this for example:
Chrono Cross CD1
Chrono Cross CD2

Not entirely sure if this is what you were looking for, but it solved my issue. Now I just have one single entry for the game that will allow me to switch disks."

Edit: I updated the Wiki if it's alright. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1#m3u-playlist-for-multi-disc-games

You responded to this intrusion of mine with a faint groan and spread your legs even wider. Your little hard lump inside the hot island swelled to the extreme and became hard and oblong. Your palms gently covered my head and began to guide it lower and lower, inviting me to visit the most secret corners of my body So. I found myself at a dark mound of curly hair, which was so sweet, he emanated such a fragrance that I could not deny myself the pleasure of running my open lips over it, feeling its rough softness.

The hairs went down and got lost between your legs, and I took these legs and spread them as wide as you could.

Maybe you don't like me. - Well, what are you, dear. I really like you, but I'm used to the fact that I'm usually in charge. Let's change, and I'll do everything right away ".
