Mac bitter eyeshadow

Have you guys watched The Croods? I just watched it not too long a go, and I love the cute sabertooth tiger! I drew inspiration from his fur colors! I love how it turned out. The eyeshadows I used are my favorites bright colors &#; chartreuse and teal. I&#;ve never thought that these 2 colors will work together, but I ended up loving it. MAC Bitter is so gorgeous, it&#;s been a while since I play with the eyeshadow and I can see myself using it more frequently in the near future.

How-to:

1. I applied MAC Bitter on the inner half of the lid using a flat eyeshadow brush.

2. Using another flat eyeshadow brush, I applied MAC Birds and Berries on the outer half.

3. Using a small fluffy brush, I applied MAC Club on the outer V and on the crease.

4. I blended out MAC Club using a fluffy blending brush.

5. Using an angled eyebrow brush, I applied MAC Bitter on the inner corner of the lower lid and MAC Birds and Berries on rest of the lower lid.

6. I also lined my waterline using L&#;oreal Voluminous Smoldering eyeliner.

7. Using a small shader brush, I applied UD Perversion eyeshadow on the outer V and along the crease.

8. I blended the eyeshadow out using a fluffy blending brush.

9. Along the upper lid, I created a winged liner using Kat Von D Trooper eyeliner.

I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline Volume Express Turbo Boost mascara on both upper and lower lashes.

I filled my brows in using MUFE Aqua Brow Gel.

For my face, I applied MUFE HD Foundation and foundation brush.

I applied MAC Shadowy as contour and MAC Cubic as blush.

On the lips, I applied MUFE Soft Apricot Rouge Artist Natural.

Every makeup enthusiast needs a bright lime green shadow. Right? That&#;s what I thought. I decided to try this one out, because I like that it is a little more yellow toned than a lot of greens out there. It&#;s a velvet finish, too, so it&#;s not quite as flat of a colour as a lot of the matte bright shades.

I have to admit, however, that it was much cooler as an idea than an actual purchase &#; I&#;ve played with it, but haven&#;t yet found a look I&#;d want to wear out of the house! It can work well as a liner &#; I like it as a second line above an intense black liner. It looks particularly stunning on ladies (and fellas 😉 with darker skin tones, because the contrast will really make it pop!

The final verdict? Easier to work with than a matte bright, gorgeous if used sparingly, but definitely not for everyone!

I picked this up in Auckland on Queen St at Smith & Caughey’s MAC counter. It was 80NZD, honestly the most amount of money I have every spent on an eyeshadow palette other than the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette which I think was a smidge more expensive (due to shipping).

Each of the eyeshadows are g so that’s a total of grams worth of product in this palette. The packaging is sturdy and slim, there’s a plastic cover internally over the shadows as well. The palette is somewhat not light because of the sturdy packaging (I count that as bad for travelling) and would it kill them to put a mirror in there? (Further -1 point for travelling), no brushes included either, my point is this is not a great travel palette despite its size and the fact it has 9 shadows.

As for the shadow finishes, you are getting three shadows that are slightly glittery (top two on the left and bottom right), 3 solid mattes (top right and middle two on the right) and 3 silky/shimmer type of shadows (middle left and bottom two on the left). So at least this palette gives you a variety of different finishes.

The top two shades on the left did NOT impress me with pigmentation. Those two are definitely the weakest in terms of colour transfer out of the whole palette. The other colours are way more pigmented and less powdery than the first two.

Without further ado, I want to just clarify that this purchase was an average, tilting on “regret” side and I shall explain why that is now:

- The first two eyeshadows are a total joke considering this is a M.A.C product. (I totally understand some of their stuff is great but those two shadows don’t even compare to the pigmentation of my Maybelline Eyestudio shadows in similar colours, WTF?!)

- The dark matte shadows creased so easily on me, I have tried plenty of eyeshadows before and NONE of them creased this badly in a short amount of time on me and I even resorted to using Urban Decay eyeshadow primer for these shades and it barely made a difference. Consider that most of the time I use eyeshadows from other brand I don’t even bother with a primer, this makes it even more obvious that those shadows are just that much more crease-worthy! I literally cannot use those shadows because the creasing is so obvious in like 5 hours!

The two points above means 2/3 of the palette was just plain bad, so that means some 53NZD worth of value has been shaved off the 80NZD. I really want to cry!

The only saving grace of this palette is like the bottom row of this palette, those three colours are like the only usable ones, they don’t crease like the other ones and have decent pigmentation. Well guys, only 27NZD worth of decent product in this 80NZD M.A.C palette, can I say “STAY AWAY” in more obvious ways? I have heard good stuff about their eyeshadows before and I can only think those good things were being said were about other lines of eyeshadows released by M.A.C with different formulation.
