Be Smart, Check in Advance. CARFAX — Your Vehicle History.

CARFAX — Your Vehicle History Expert

Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you, but that's not the case when buying a used car. As an independent vehicle history provider, at CARFAX we've made it our mission to tell you everything you need to know by uncovering as many events as possible from the previous life of a used car. Our primary goal is to help you get to know your next car from the inside out before deciding to make an investment that will be part of you and your family's everyday life. We believe your next car shouldn't be hiding anything from you.

CARFAX Vehicle History Reports contain over 28 billion historical records from 20 European countries, the US and Canada, which are updated daily with new information.

Even if you live in a country we don't collect vehicle data from, it's still always worth checking the Vehicle Identification Number without obligation. The used car import and export market is booming and many owners would be surprised to find out exactly what happened to their vehicle during its previous life abroad.

Privacy for Customers — Transparency over Vehicles

Let's be clear: Although we strive to find every detail of a vehicle's life so far, we are focused only on the vehicle's history, and do not collect any information on previous owners. The information we provide relates solely to the vehicle, its odometer reading, any accidents that have been covered up, where the vehicle comes from and much more — it never gets personal. We've uncovered irreparable damage several times in the past, but other times our vehicle history checks draw a blank — and sometimes that's actually a good thing.

Second Hand — Not Second Best

Did you know that considerably more used cars are sold than new cars? We think this second-hand system is nothing short of fantastic. However, it goes without saying that it gives rise to different methods and tactics: Some sellers will disguise a car that's been in an accident under a fresh coat of paint, tamper with the odometer or conceal theft. This is one of the less appealing aspects of buying second hand. Our goal is to establish trusting relationships between buyers and sellers, since this is the best way to help customers make the right decision. Your new car should be reliable and make you feel safe, as well as make you feel like you haven't paid too much.

But more than anything else, we don't want you or your family unknowingly sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that isn't 100% safe. This is why we strive to take these vehicles off the road, which not only makes the used car market safer but our streets safer too.

CARFAX — 35+ Years of Experience in Vehicle Histories

CARFAX was founded in the US in 1984 and expanded into Europe in 2007. Around 100 team members spread across six European offices process vehicle information from 22 countries.

Fostering strategic partnerships with registration authorities, law enforcement agencies, government departments, insurance companies, inspection centers and numerous other leading companies around the world has enabled us to compile a unique international database for vehicle histories. We use this database to help make the used car market more transparent. We give everyone in the process of buying a used car access to what is currently the world's most comprehensive source for vehicle history reports, and is growing day by day.

We remain neutral and independent despite our partnerships — our sole purpose is help customers make an informed choice and ensure their safety and the safety of their family. This includes never collecting any personal details — we do not accept any PII from data sources amongst the information we provide about a vehicle. We ensure that data protection laws are observed at all times. Furthermore, we always collect our data in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks — in all the countries in which we are active. We expressly distance ourselves from illegal activities such as data theft, scraping and hacking.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Features

8.5/10

The 2017 Chevy Traverse doesn't have much in the way of killer apps or class-exclusive features, but it's well-equipped in all versions- The Car Connection

This year, the top-end LTZ trim is replaced by Premier while a new LS 1SM trim has been added to the lineup. So the total trim count is five which includes LS 1SM, LS, 1LT, 2LT, and Premier. Prices vary from $28,700 for the LS Base model to $44,045 for the top-spec Premier trim. The newly-added base trim is only available in FWD configuration while the rest of the rivals come in both FWD and AWD drivetrains. The Traverse gets access to 17, 18 and 20-inch alloy wheels.

2017 Chevy traverse pricing & features

Only a few standard features are offered in the new LS 1SM trim. However, the feature list gets extended as you climb the trim ladder. Some of them include remote keyless entry, cloth upholstery, etc. Chevy's MyLink infotainment system is available from the 2LT trim onwards that adds Bluetooth audio streaming, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Some optional features include a navigation system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a dual-pane sunroof.

We Recommend

If you wish to buy the Chevrolet Traverse, we recommend you buy the 2LT trim as it offers a lot of features for its price. This trim adds a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system, a power tailgate, heated front seats, and tri-zone automatic climate control. We also advise upgrading to the Driver Confidence package as it adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert to the safety list.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Engine and Performance

7.5/10

The 3.6-liter V6 engine is fine for most day-to-day driving conditions- Edmunds

Powering the Chevy Traverse is just one engine which is a 3.6L V6 engine that churns out 281 hp and 266 lb-ft. of torque on models equipped with single exhaust to 288 hp and 270 lb-ft. of torque on the dual exhaust Premier models. All this power is out via a 6-speed automatic transmission. FWD drivetrain is standard whereas the AWD setup is available for $2,000 extra, except for the LS Base trim.

2017 chevy traverse engine

This engine is an old one but refined and offers enough grunt to keep this large SUV moving. The 6-peed automatic keeps the engine live with its smooth and quick shifts. However, while downshifting, you will notice some glitches. The throttle response is smooth and has excellent power delivery. The engine doesn't make much noise when you rev high and hence, you will have a comfortable driving experience.

Torque266 lb-ft. @ 3,400 RPM263 lb-ft. @ 4,700 RPM262 lb-ft. @ 4,700 RPM255 lb-ft. @ 4,000 RPM

The Traverse is an inexpensive alternative in its segment. On the flip side, the Toyota Highlander makes the most power in this competition and uses an 8-speed automatic for better power delivery and acceleration. Both the Ford Explorer and the Honda Pilot use a 6-speed automatic like the Traverse but the former makes more power.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Acceleration

The Chevrolet Traverse isn't that bad when it comes to acceleration. This SUV completes the 0-60 MPH sprint in 6.8 seconds, which is good considering its sheer size. Past 4,000 RPM, the pace gets slower and covers the quarter-mile mark in 15.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 120 MPH.

2017 chevy traverse sprints from 0-60 mph in 6.8 sec

Acceleration is a little sluggish in the Traverse. You could feel the weight of the vehicle while accelerating. On rare occasions, it feels quicker but overall, it doesn't get up quickly as you'd like. The automatic transmission shifts gears at the right time, therefore, helping this big SUV have decent performance stats.

Top Speed120 MPH120 MPH120 MPH134 MPH

Surprisingly, the power Toyota Highlander is not the quickest vehicle here. That title goes to the Honda Pilot instead for its shortest 0-60 MPH sprint time. Despite being lighter and power than the Traverse, the Ford Explorer disappoints with its slow acceleration. The Traverse's performance numbers are good compared to its rivals.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Ride and Handling

The Chevy Traverse is a pleasant car to drive thanks to its sedan-like handling characteristics. When you take sharp turns at high speeds, the Traverse feels planted and stable. There is a noticeable body roll but that's fine. The steering feels light and directs the vehicle nicely in the direction you point.

2017 chevy traverse ride & handling

It also has a tight turning radius but that doesn't help while maneuvering at narrow streets or tight parking spots due to its sheer size. The FWD models suffer from a lot of torque steer, which is pretty much expected. AWD models offer plenty of grip on snowy or wet roads. Bear in mind that the Traverse is not an off-roader.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Braking

The wheels of the Chevrolet Traverse are fitted with 12.8-inch disc brakes in the front and 13-inch disc brakes at the back. A braking distance of 135 feet is recorded when the Traverse stops from 60-0 MPH with no wheels locked. Compared to its class rivals, the Traverse's braking capabilities are not good.

2017 chevy traverse brakes

The pedal feels soft but does not apply the right amount of force when required. The brakes fade after repeated use, which can decrease the braking performance. Unlike its rivals, the Traverse doesn't come with technologies like automatic emergency braking. The redesigned Traverse coming next year is expected to come with these technologies.

The Toyota Highlander takes the shortest braking distance, meaning it has the strongest brakes here. The light-weighted Honda Pilot could have taken an even shorter braking distance, had its brakes performed better. The Ford Explorer's braking distance is decent for its size.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Towing Capacity

The towing capacity of the Chevrolet Traverse tops at 5,200 pounds, which is one of the best in its class. In order to achieve this towing capacity, you have to upgrade to the optional Towing package that includes a Tow mode, a heavy-duty cooling system, and a tow hitch.

All the rivals of the Traverse in this competition have their towing capacity rated at 5,000 pounds. Therefore, if you need to tow large items, the Traverse is definitely a better choice than its rivals.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Fuel Economy

5.0/10

The Traverse's fuel economy isn't as good as rivals, which dings its value proposition- Autolist

The Chevrolet Traverse is the worst fuel-sipper in its segment. In FWD guise, the Traverse returns 15 MPG in the city, 22 MPG on a highway, and 18 MPG combined. Comparatively these ratings are the lowest in its segment. Opting for the AWD system drops down the fuel economy by 1 MPG but the city and highway remain the same.

2017 chevy traverse mpg figures

The driving range offered by the Traverse is not that impressive but still, it keeps up with the rest of the rivals in its segment. A combined driving range of 407 miles is delivered which is supplemented by a 22-gallon fuel tank. Definitely, the Traverse is not the most fuel-efficient SUV in its segment but its large fuel tank saves the day for its buyers.

Looking at the numbers on the table, the Traverse is indeed the least fuel-efficient SUV. With a combined mileage of 23 MPG, the Toyota Highlander is an efficient SUV. The Honda Pilot's MPG figures are almost similar to the Highlander. The fuel economy of the Ford Explorer is decent for its size but fails to deliver better range than the Traverse,

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Interior

7.6/10

The cabin includes soft-touch materials on the dash and on the upper doors which create an upscale feel- Left Lane News

The cabin of the Chevrolet Traverse has a simple and clean design but it feels old in terms of layout. It seats up to eight passengers but the optional second-row captain chairs reduce the seating capacity to seven. Cloth upholstery is standard except for the Premier trim that gets perforated leather seats. Talking about the front-seat comfort, cushioning is good but there is no side bolsters to keep you in place. The front seats are power-adjustable and heated only on higher trims.

2017 chevy traverse cockpit

Six-footers will love sitting up front as there is plenty of head and legroom available. In the second row, the passenger space is diminished by a few inches but that's not much of a concern as adults can sit comfortably. However, the third row lacks enough space and is best suitable for kids. Getting back to the third row is easy as the second-row seats can slide and recline. But sometimes, it becomes a challenging task to slide the seat forward.

Only the Ford Explorer is a 7-seater SUV while the rest of the rivals seat up to 8 people. But its space levels are almost similar to the Traverse. The Toyota Highlander offers a good deal of passenger space in the first two rows but offers the least space in the third row. The shoulder room offered in the first two rows of the Honda Pilot is more than the Traverse. This means the seats are wide and the passengers won't feel congested.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Infotainment System

The Chevrolet Traverse comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display. This screen supports basic functions such as satellite radio, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and auxiliary audio input. Chevy's MyLink infotainment system is standard from the 2LT trim onwards and adds audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the list.

2017 chevy traverse infotainment system

A 6-speaker sound system is standard on the lower trims but audiophiles will love the sound quality of the 10-speaker Bose premium audio system on the 2LT and Premier trims. A rear-seat entertainment system and navigation system are some optional features available in the Traverse. The touch responses are slow and the screen lags sometimes.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Interior Features

The Chevrolet Traverse offers a decent list of standard features. Some of the infotainment and interior features of the Traverse are:

  • Tilt & telescopic multi-function leather steering wheel
  • 8-way power front seats with power lumbar support
  • Cloth & leather upholstery
  • Heated & cooled front seats
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Remote engine start
  • Power liftgate
  • 6.5-inch touchscreen display
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 10-speaker Bose premium audio system
  • Wi-FI hotspot
  • SiriusXM

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Cargo Volume

The Chevrolet Traverse is one of the most practical SUVs in its segment. With all the seats upright, you will find 24.4 cubic feet of cargo space available. Fold the third-row seats and you will get access to 70.3 cubic feet. Finally, a maximum cargo area of 116.3 cubic feet is available with the second-row seats folded.

2017 chevy traverse cargo area

The seats fold completely flat and therefore, storing long items is easy. If you are still not satisfied with this space, you need to look for a minivan instead of a midsize SUV. A power liftgate is available only on the 2LT and Premier trims. Compared to its rivals, the Traverse has a low ground clearance which will be helpful while loading items into the cargo area.

The Traverse is a highly recommend SUV if you want the best cargo capacity as no other SUV here is close to its offering. The maximum cargo capacities of the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot are almost the same i.e. close to 84 cubic feet. The Ford Explorer comes in last as it offers just 80.7 cubic feet.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Exterior

6.0/10

The Traverse is now eight years into its current design, but its style is holding up, thanks to front and rear tweaks made a few years ago- Kelly Blue Book

The Traverse is Chevrolet's oldest vehicle in their model lineup and in terms of exterior styling, it certainly is getting pretty dated. However, the Traverse is expected to gel a full redesign next year. Don't expect to find projector headlights or any kind of LED lighting on this vehicle. Instead, you get big halogen headlights accompanied by a bow tie on the grille. The fog lamps on the lower fascia round off the front design.

2017 chevy traverse exterior dimensions

A hard plastic black molding runs along from the front to the rear to give a rugged appearance. Coming to wheel options. the Traverse is offered with 17,18 and 20-inch alloy wheels. The distance between the front and rear wheels is 118.9 inches, which is by far the widest in its segment. Therefore, it reflects in its spacious cabin. At the back, things are kept simple and just like the front-end, the rear design also looks dated.

With a ground clearance of 8 inches, the Toyota Highlander is a perfect SUV for those off-road lovers. Due to the light curb weight of the Honda Pilot, its on-road performance is better than the Traverse. The Ford Explorer's wheelbase measures around 6.1 inches less than the Traverse but it doesn't affect its in-cabin space at all. However, its short length does affect its cargo space.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse Exterior Features

Some cool highlights of the Traverse's exterior are as follows:

  • 17, 18 & 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Halogen headlights & taillights
  • Front fog lamps
  • Daytime running lights
  • Power-folding, auto-dimming exterior mirrors
